In a major crackdown on illegal cannabis operations, California authorities have seized over 2.2 million illicit cannabis packages, many of which were deceptively marketed as children’s candy. The operation, led by the Governor’s Unified Cannabis Enforcement Taskforce, targeted multiple storefronts in Los Angeles’ Toy District. This significant seizure underscores the ongoing challenges in regulating the cannabis market and protecting public health, particularly the safety of children. The Operation and Seizure
The operation was conducted by the Governor’s Unified Cannabis Enforcement Taskforce, which includes multiple state agencies. The taskforce focused on 11 storefronts in the Toy District of Los Angeles, known for its high concentration of businesses dealing in bulk packaging. These businesses were found to be manufacturing and selling packaging designed to mimic popular food and candy brands, making them particularly appealing to children.
During the raid, authorities seized over 2.2 million illicit cannabis packages. These packages were marked with forged California seals, falsely indicating that they met state safety and quality standards. The seizure also included 31 banker-sized boxes and garbage bags filled with illicit cannabis, as well as 32 boxes and bags of illicit cigarettes and tobacco products. This operation is part of a broader effort to crack down on illegal cannabis activities and protect the integrity of California’s legal cannabis market.
