In a significant bust, Nottinghamshire Police discovered almost 1,800 cannabis plants in a warehouse during a raid on Thursday, leading to the arrest of a 35-year-old man on suspicion of cannabis production.
Discovery of the Cannabis Operation
The police raid, which took place in Colwick, followed reports suggesting that the property could be involved in illegal drug production. Upon entering the warehouse, officers uncovered a total of 1,786 cannabis plants. The operation was also found to be operating with dangerously bypassed electricity systems, raising concerns about safety.
Fire Hazard and Community Concerns
According to Detective Sergeant Nathan Bingham, the warehouse posed significant risks due to the heat generated by the plants, modifications to the electrical wiring, and the highly combustible materials present in the setup. Bingham emphasized that these illicit cannabis grows create serious fire hazards, putting both the local community and the individuals working on such operations in danger.
He also noted that these illegal drug production sites often exploit people to care for the crops and bring unwanted problems to the neighborhood.
Police Efforts and Ongoing Investigation
While the arrest has been made, Detective Sergeant Bingham stated that the investigation is still ongoing. The police have urged anyone with information about the operation to come forward. The operation was praised by the police as a major victory in removing a significant illegal cannabis cultivation operation from the community.
