Kailua, Oahu – On Thursday, Kailua became home to Oahu’s newest medical cannabis dispensary, marking a significant expansion in the island’s healthcare landscape. The Department of Health has approved Cure Oahu’s third location at 70 Kihapai St., bringing the total number of dispensaries on Oahu to 10 and statewide to 25.
A Step Toward Greater Access for Oahu Patients
This new dispensary provides much-needed access to medical cannabis for patients on the windward side of Oahu, an area previously underserved by dispensaries. Cure Oahu’s latest addition comes as a welcome relief for the growing number of patients in Hawaii who rely on medical cannabis for therapeutic purposes.
As of December 2, 2024, there are 30,035 registered medical cannabis patients and 2,609 caregivers across the state, with 14,798 patients and 1,463 caregivers residing on Oahu alone. For adult patients, severe pain is the most commonly reported condition, while younger patients typically seek treatment for severe pain, seizures, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
The Impact of the New Dispensary
The opening of Cure Oahu’s Kailua dispensary will enhance local healthcare services and offer residents easier access to cannabis products. Liam Gimon, the Department of Health’s Dispensary Licensing Supervisor, emphasized the importance of this new location for patients in the area, stating that it would address the needs of those seeking relief in the windward part of the island.
With the launch of its Kailua location, Cure Oahu continues to expand its footprint in Hawaii, aiming to meet the growing demand for medical cannabis services and ensure that patients have access to the resources they need.
