Authorities at Bakauheni Port in South Lampung have intercepted an attempt to smuggle marijuana through a logistics route, preventing illicit drugs valued at hundreds of millions of rupiah from reaching their destination in Jakarta.
Smuggling Plot Uncovered During Routine Inspection
The incident unfolded when officers from the Port Area Sector Police (KSKP) conducted routine inspections on vehicles entering the port. One particular box truck, bearing license plate B 9240 FXV and driven by a 49-year-old identified as E, drew attention due to a suspicious package.
Upon closer examination, officers found a blue sack-covered cardboard box. Inside were 11 packages containing marijuana. The contents were promptly confiscated, and the investigation extended to uncover the intended recipient of the shipment.
Arrest Made in Jakarta
After coordinating with the logistics company handling the shipment, investigators tracked the package to Tambora, West Jakarta. On November 20, a 24-year-old named FP arrived at the designated address to retrieve the parcel. He was arrested without resistance.
During questioning, FP revealed that he was acting on the orders of an individual known only as “A” or “Grandpa.” Authorities are now investigating to determine the scope of the smuggling network and identify other individuals involved.
Seized Items and Legal Implications
The following items were secured as evidence:
- 11 packages of marijuana, concealed in a cardboard box
- An iPhone 11 used for communication
- The truck involved in the transport
The marijuana is estimated to hold a street value in the hundreds of millions of rupiah. FP faces charges under Articles 111 and 114 of Indonesia’s Narcotics Law No. 35 of 2009, which carry a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
Strengthened Security at Bakauheni Port
AKP Firman Widyaputra, Head of KSKP Bakauheni, emphasized the importance of heightened vigilance at the port. The location serves as a strategic entry point, making it a target for drug traffickers.
“Our officers are conducting strict checks to disrupt drug trafficking networks, particularly those exploiting logistics routes,” Widyaputra stated.
He urged the public to report any suspicious activities linked to drug smuggling and encouraged collaboration between law enforcement and logistics companies to detect and prevent illegal shipments.
Ongoing Battle Against Drug Trafficking
This interception marks a significant success in curbing the flow of narcotics within Indonesia. However, it also highlights the challenges posed by sophisticated smuggling operations.
Law enforcement agencies continue to monitor strategic routes like Bakauheni Port to stem the tide of drug trafficking, ensuring the safety and security of the region.
