On Monday, Kentucky’s Office of Medical Cannabis revealed the first batch of winners for medical cannabis dispensary licenses, a significant milestone ahead of the state’s anticipated 2025 launch. The four Northern Kentucky businesses chosen are Yellow Flowers and Green Grass Cannabis in Erlanger, Nicole Tirella in Alexandria, and Bluegrass Cannacare in Florence. The announcement follows months of preparations and applications, beginning with the signing of House Bill 829 by Governor Andy Beshear earlier this year.
A Competitive Process for Medical Cannabis Licenses
Kentucky’s medical cannabis program, set to officially begin in January 2025, has generated significant interest. The state received nearly 5,000 applications for various cannabis-related licenses, with more than 4,000 specifically for dispensaries.

When two businesses in the same county were selected, one had to relocate to a nearby county in the region to guarantee wider access.
