The NC AMVETS Service Foundation, a non-profit organization that supports and advocates for American veterans, has announced the initiation of a clinical study on the efficacy of CBD for U.S. veterans. The study, conducted in collaboration with the University of Northern Colorado and Vantage Hemp Co., aims to better understand the effects of CBD among the veteran population in addressing various issues they may face.
CBD: A Potential Solution for Veterans’ Issues
CBD, or cannabidiol, is a non-psychoactive compound derived from the cannabis plant. CBD has been shown to have various therapeutic benefits, such as reducing pain, inflammation, anxiety, and seizures. CBD is also considered to be safe and well-tolerated, with minimal side effects and no risk of addiction or abuse.
Many veterans suffer from chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), insomnia, depression, and opioid addiction, which can negatively impact their quality of life and well-being. CBD may offer a natural and effective alternative to conventional medications, which often have limited efficacy and serious adverse effects.
However, the research on CBD for veterans is still limited and inconclusive, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) does not endorse or prescribe CBD products for veterans. Therefore, there is a need for more rigorous and comprehensive studies to evaluate the potential benefits and risks of CBD for veterans.
The Study: A Placebo-Controlled Examination of CBD
The NC AMVETS Service Foundation, in partnership with the University of Northern Colorado and Vantage Hemp Co., has launched a clinical study on the efficacy of CBD for U.S. veterans. The study will be a placebo-controlled examination of a daily fixed dose of CBD over 28 days. The study’s goal will be to assess the effect of CBD on several parameters that negatively impact the day-to-day activities of veterans, such as pain, mood, sleep, and cognition. An additional goal of the study will involve surveying veterans regarding their lived experiences with CBD.
The study is expected to generate valuable data that can inform decisions by the VA and advocate for further research into CBD. The study will also contribute to the scientific literature on CBD and provide insights into the real-world experiences of America’s veterans.
Vantage Hemp Co., a globally accredited plant-based extractor and finished product manufacturer, has pledged a total of $100,000, consisting of $50,000 in cash and $50,000 in in-kind services, to support the study. The University of Northern Colorado will play a vital role in the research process, contributing expertise to ensure the study’s scientific rigor and validity.
How to Participate: Veterans Encouraged to Apply
Veterans interested in participating in the study are encouraged to apply online or contact cbdstudy@ncamvets.us for more information. The study is open to veterans who are 18 years or older, have a valid VA ID card, and are not currently using CBD products. The study will involve taking CBD capsules or placebo capsules once a day for 28 days, completing online surveys and assessments, and providing saliva samples for analysis.
The study is expected to start in February 2024 and last for six months. Participants will receive compensation for their time and effort, as well as free CBD products after the study is completed.
